The 'CEDERBERG CHALETS' situated in the 'CEDAR ROCK' wilderness reserve, offer a unique opportunity to experience wide open spaces of unspoiled pristine wilderness.

The road leading to the reserve once served as the main wagon supply route between Citrusdal and Calvinia. A high ground clearance vehicle is essential.

Tranquility, spectacular rock formations, rock art, hiking, game viewing, bird watching and unpolluted fresh air exist here in abundance. Succulent Karoo flowers abound in season.

The endangered Cape mountain zebra roam freely, alongside gemsbok, springbok, leopard, and other game species. A large variety of bird life varies with the seasons, including raptors such as black eagle and pale chanting goshawk, amongst many others.  We are situated in the Succulent Karoo which is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of the world's internationally recognized biodiversity hotspots.

Shepherds' stone cottages, some in the vicinity of 150 years old, have been restored as luxury “solitude” chalets for those wishing a quiet, private landscape of their own, shared only with game. They are comfortably furnished and equipped for all self catering needs.

Our staff were recruited from the small village of Langkloof, which is located on the border of the Cederberg. Their skills include stone masonry, thatching, game tracking, and tourism assistance.

The reserve is located in the Red Cederberg Karoo Park, which in turn is part of the Cederberg Conservancy.
